Draft Beer At Home
This is not your father’s draft beer

For many, many years draft beer was sold to consumers as a “buy it in bulk” solution for fraternity parties and
backyard barbecues. How often have a bunch of guys hung around far too late and drank far too much because
they didn’t want the beer in the keg to go to waste? Everyone knows that the beer in that keg couldn’t be served the
next day – it would flat, warm and taste like wet cardboard.

Fortunately, we don’t have to live with that situation here in the 21st century. Now the smart beer drinker can pick-
up a store bought refrigeration and dispense system that will allow him or her to serve perfectly cold, perfectly
fresh beer all the time. Without worrying about waste or that bunch of guys that will hang around until hell freezes
over to get that last beer out of a keg.

Not long ago draft beer was a second or even third class citizen among brewers and retail bars and restaurants.
However, that attitude has changed considerably with an increase in competition across the beverage industry.
Now beer has to compete with itself in an ever expanding offering of brands and styles, as well as with spirits,
wine and soft drink sales. Now more than ever bars are installing elaborate draft dispense systems with many
faucets and brands of beer to offer their customers. The reason – to maximize their profits. At your corner bar or
Chilis at the mall, draft beer is the most profitable item - with margins of up to 300%!

At home you can take advantage of this commercial profit pursuit because (A) there are more brand choices
available in kegs; (B) Brewers now have more sizes of kegs available; (C) your beer of choice is much cheaper by
the keg than if you bought it by the bottle or can and (D) you can control the quality of the beer that comes out of
your tap at home.

Ten Reasons to Drink Draft Beer at Home:

1.        Draft Beer tastes better
2.        Draft beer is fresher
3.        Its easier to store
4.        It will impress your friends and neighbors
5.        Draft beer is neater and better for the environment
6.        When home brewing you won’t have to clean and fill all those annoying bottles
7.        Fewer trips to the beer store
8.        Draft Beer is less expensive
9.        You can show-off all kinds of cool tap handles
10.     Stay at home and avoid drinking and driving

Home draft systems require periodic maintenance and cleaning just like commercial systems do. Much of this
you can do yourself. However, there are common problems with home systems:

  1. The beer isn't cold enough
  2. The beer is wildly foamy
  3. the first pour is always foamy
  4. the faucet pours very slowly

The number one problem for any draft system is temperature so answer these questions:

Is the temperature of the beer in keg 36-38 degrees?

Is the temperature of the beer at the faucet 36-38 degrees?

If the temperature is not right then you may have some easily solved mechanical problems. Email me for
information.
